Adventures in January 2016

By | Maria Matarelli, Travels | No Comments

A lot of great cities are on the travel list for January to kick off 2016.

9 cities across a few countries with 3 islands and a cruise.. There has been a trend in the last few years with more and more conferences being held on cruise ships. We host the Boardroom Cruise every year in the last week of January. This year, we leave out of Ft. Lauderdale and stop to visit Aruba, Grand Turk, and Curacao Islands. The cruise sells out each year, but we will have up the registration soon for 2017 – You are invited to join us!

I rather enjoy this conference on a cruise ship trend and I bet you will too!

I had the honor of speaking at the Shanghai Scrum Gathering on the value of connecting with our customers and the importance of customer collaboration.

There were so many great conversations and I had the opportunity to talk with several Agilists about the Agile Advantage they see in their use of Agile and Scrum around the world.

I had the opportunity to interview several of the speakers and agile practitioners including Joe Justice, Keynote Speaker, Founder of Wikispeed, and Trainer at Scrum Inc.

The Shangri-La venue for the Gathering was incredible and people attended from all around the world.

It was an incredible trip to Shanghai and a good refresher that the challenges we see in one location tend to be similar challenges around the world and the same good agile practices can combat those challenges to reach a level of continuous improvement and a level of higher performance.

Gotham City in Chicago

I just arrived back in Chicago after a week in Arizona.. (What a delight!! A whole week in one location!!)

It was one of those cool Gotham City-like nights. It’s always eerie when you can’t see the tops of buildings that you normally see. I’m sure Batman is out there somewhere.

What to do on a Saturday night with one day in Chicago after being on the road for a week and transitioning to another city in a day? Absolutely nothing. I ordered carryout seafood from Eddie V’s – to include a caesar salad, lobster bisque soup, and their ever-so-divine scallops, and it was dreamy.

San Francisco Explorations

San Francisco is such an amazing place… the people, the culture, everything. I had the pleasure of leading a certification class and an Agile for Executives class with a startup company on the West Coast and while I was there, decided to stay and visit friends over the Fourth of July.

Driving around the city is so fun.

At night, the streets are lit up in such a beautiful way with so many unique shops and restaurants.

I met up with my friend Eliza and we began our explorations at Yuubi Japanese Restaurant.

One of the coolest things was exploring a Japanese Tea Garden – so tranquil.

One of the most delightful experiences was eating at Scala’s Bistro.

The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance, divine.

Boardroom on the Beach

By | Travels | No Comments

When I left Chicago, I began traveling the world on one-way tickets and I ended up in Florida for a bit, escaping the bitter cold weather and as I looked around at different groups in the area for ways to meet other entrepreneurs and business owners, I decided to create my own consulting group… a business consulting group… on the beach called Boardroom on the Beach.

The idea behind this group is to provide a place for leaders to go when they need support, motivation, or to be inspired. When you’re supposed to be the fearless leader and have all the answers, where do you go to get your ideas and find the strength to lead. Come to our boardroom where we provide cutting edge strategies and specific techniques to help business owners and entrepreneurs get to the next level.

We meet on Clearwater Beach and share strategies and specific tactics for entrepreneurs and business owners to excel. We also created a spin off group and began meeting at a log cabin in Orlando, creating the group Boardroom At The Cabin.
